VAT questions for the United Arab Emirates
What is the standard VAT rate in the United Arab Emirates?
5%. Reduced and zero rates also apply to particular goods and services, and they are listed in the table above — pick one of the slabs, or type the rate your invoice uses.
How do I take VAT back out of a total?
Divide by 1 plus the rate rather than multiplying by it. At 5%, a total divided by 1 plus 5% gives the amount before tax, and the difference is the tax. Choose "Remove tax" and this is done for you.
Do I have to register for VAT?
Registration usually becomes compulsory above a turnover threshold, which is shown in the table above where one applies. Thresholds have conditions and exceptions, so confirm your position with the United Arab Emirates's tax authority or your accountant.
